I use heavy cream, no starch, and simmer to reduce ~40% Much faster. The final consistency depends on how much you reduce. It may not be "authentic" ashta or sarshir, but its close enough.

I think the fast way of making original sarshir is made by baking heavy cream on slow heat for longer time.
