any parental figure he's ever had has tossed him aside or abused him in some way. his father verbally and most likely physically abusive, dismissing him in favor of his brothers. his mother quite literally grooming him throughout his childhood and even into adulthood, so when shes turned into a vampire and he thinks he has control over her, she tells him 'i love you' and suddenly he's back to being that little boy. magnus, his vampire father of sorts raping him in both ways by assaulting him and giving him the dark gift unwillingly. the keeper, digging him up after being abandoned by his mother and telling him the words 'you are worthy,' only to then leave causing lestat to essentially go mad with loneliness. akasha, the only form of companion he has for however many years, suddenly waking up just to feast on him. the keeper coming back and yelling at him in his most confused, taking back his previous words and telling him his is unworthy. lestat died and was reborn as a groomed child with a want for acceptance, and maybe the dark gift is living with your deepest fear. lestat never being accepted. louis, struggling with his identity as a black, queer man and being in the throes of grief- only to be turned into a vampire where he still doesnt truly belong to the humans or the vampires, holding onto a soul that's already gone. and then never being able to stop grieving claudia. claudia was obvious, being turned so young, the dark gift was never being chosen and always being seen as a child. her father left her, her aunt beat her, and then it was always a struggle for louis and lestat to see past themselves and notice her. when shes finally chosen, she has but a little bit of happiness before its ripped away from her by burning. the same was she was born into vampirism, the same way she died. armand is most likely devotion, he died a slave and now his purpose is being devoted in different ways. im talking out of my ass right now but i like thinking im profound
