Today, July 18, 2026, the Ugwu Nwasike roundabout in Ogidi, Anambra State, became more than a traffic intersection. It became a place of pilgrimage. Gov Soludo, surrounded by dignitaries, literary scholars, and members of the Achebe family, unveiled a statue of Professor Chinua Achebe, the son of Ogidi whose words and pen trabsformed not just African literature, but the very way the world understands the Black experience. The bronze figure joins the Chinua Achebe International Passenger and Cargo Airport, renamed in 2023, as part of Anambra State's deliberate effort to preserve the legacy of one of its sons. Governor Soludo described the monument as "more than a physical structure" but a declaration of Anambra's commitment to preserving the memory of a man who "gave voice to Africa's story and elevated the consciousness of the Black race on the global stage." Yet it was Soludo's direct address to the youth that resonated with me. In an era where attention spans are low and role models shift toward fleeting online fame, he called young people across Anambra and Nigeria to emulate Achebe's "exemplary life of integrity, intellectual excellence, principled leadership, and dedication to truth." There is something poetic about Achebe's statue standing at a roundabout, a place where roads converge, where travelers must choose a direction. A fitting tribute for a man who spent his life challenging generations to think critically, speak truthfully and choose principle over convenience. Achebe passed in 2013, yet his spirit continues to guide the intellectual and cultural trajectory of his home state. #solutionishere #anambraisrising #solutioncontinues
