If that were me I would ask if he could handle as much as he could before he goes on pto. And then do a handover for me if it was that important I would take over. If they did ask for them. Then apologise as it was last minute issue they wernt able to be here. I’m here to walk through any issues. I would never cancel a pto. That’s how you loose staff fast

I have a rule for my people, once I approve, I don't unapprove unless they request OR off chance it's an HR/violation of company policy thing (that's extremely rare). Take your PTO and enjoy yourself
