I have a rule for my people, once I approve, I don't unapprove unless they request OR off chance it's an HR/violation of company policy thing (that's extremely rare). Take your PTO and enjoy yourself

I once asked a boss for time off 6 months in advance. Told him it was trip to Paris/London. He said it was too far in advance to approve. I booked and kept reminding him. When time came he seemed annoyed like I didnt give him enough notice. I had receipts of the convos from the months of reminders and me telling him. He kept saying he had to get it approved from the higher ups. I told the higher ups and they said it was fine and hope I enjoy the trip. It was never a problem, he just didn't want to cover my work. Which I had done and all he had to do was check on items.

Genuinely asking, is it not a thing in the US that if employer needs to cancel your approved vacation time they are legally obligated to pay all your expenses connected to the vacation they are canceling ?

In Poland we can have our PTO cancelled, but the employer MUST repay all the money spent on bookings. So usually no one will cancel it for you unless it’s a real emergency lol
