Transom windows above doors are a great idea but obviously not that wire reinforced stuff you've got there. That's just ugly. But done nicely they look good and let extra light through the flat. They look even better with a bit of stained glass ❤️

Here in the American South in days past they had what they called transom’s. Windows over doors that tilted to provide airflow, before AC.
