Iranians nowadays are trying SO HARD to distance themselves from the Arab world and Arabic language that we’re literally alienating our own 🤦🏻♀️I feel guilty saying salam to anyone these days and it’s not natural for me to say Dorood because that’s not what I grew up saying so I just say hey or hello or good morning 😂

As an Iranian I think it's so funny, because they say dorood and then vaght bekheyr or haletun chetore? . They use a lot of Arabic word but apparently salam is the limit. As I know a lot of arabs start their greeting with other words like ahlan va sahlan or marhaba.

As someone of Turkish descent I can relate. Some ethno nationalist Turks will also get mad at simple Turkish greetings and say "Don't say merhaba/selam those are Arabic words say esenlikler" NO ONE SAYS ESENLIKLER! THAT'S NOT A THING PEOPLE DO! I have literally never heard anyone use that word irl. It's jusr chronically online zoomer nationalists
