Cole) * Translation title: Al-Kurani ni Ede Yoruba * First published: 1906 in Lagos, Nigeria. It was later republished in 1924. Scholars identify it as the first known Yoruba translation of the Qur’an. It’s important to note that Rev. M. S. Cole was a Christian missionary, not a Muslim scholar. His translation was prepared mainly for a Christian audience and was not widely accepted by Yoruba Muslim scholars. Later, Muslim scholars produced their own Yoruba translations that became more popular among Muslims.
