You’re talking to someone you believe cares about you — so when they say “send it through Cash App, then convert it to Bitcoin,” it doesn’t sound like a red flag. It sounds like a favor. Sometimes it’s framed as an investment.Sometimes it’s framed as helping them get funds to come home. Either way, it sounds practical, not dangerous. Here’s why they want it in crypto specifically. A regular Cash App payment, a bank transfer, even a wire — those can sometimes be disputed, flagged, or clawed back if you catch it fast enough. Bitcoin can’t be reversed. Once it’s sent, it’s gone, and it moves through wallets that are almost impossible to trace back to a real person. For them, it’s not a preference. It’s the exit door. And they don’t ask for it all at once. It starts small — test the water, build the habit of converting and sending. By the time the amount is real money, the request already feels normal, because you’ve done it before without anything going wrong. That’s not luck. That’s the setup.
