Please reiterate that no police will call you. They will either show up to arrest you or you will get paperwork in the mail.

No officer, Sheriff’s Deputy or Police, will ever call for warrants, subpoenas, nothing. A detective will call in regards to an active case but usually only asking you to come in for questions, but NEVER for anything else. They will never ask you for personal information over the phone as well.

If there’s a next time, all you have to say is: “I’m unable to operate a vehicle safely, please send a squad car to pick me up. I’ll call your dispatcher to confirm the officers who will be arriving and their ETA”.

Happened to me and made video too. He was quite convincing. I told him I would call my courthouse myself and he hung up.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s definitely not cognitive dissonance. They purposely will call you and rile you up so that you’re not thinking straight, and hope that you lose all common sense and pay them. The trigger your nervous system to put you in fight or flight mode, so that you feel like you don’t have time to think of solutions, I’ve had this happen to several employees recently, young girls, they’ll call me crying freaking out that they’re gonna go to jail cause they said that they’re gonna arrest them, and while they’re not thinking straight, they try to get them to pay them.

Yup Yup... while driving to the Sheriff's office the guy on the phone asked for a credit card. Laughing, I told him that I don't have a credit card, and hang up. I did finish going to the Sheriff's office to find out that there was already an investigation going on, and that I wasn't the first person to show up like that 😜

There's a good chance the zelle/PayPal account was a mule account or made using a stolen/synthetic identity. The likelihood that name is actually anyone involved is almost 0.
I heard a woman with a similar story who swore it was a trafficking situation and I knew there had to be another part. Your full story confirms it. I'm glad you figured it out before it was too late!

do not just check the number on google. it is literally so easy to spoof numbers these days. look up the number, hang up, and then dial the number YOURSELF to call and check. this should not have gotten as far as it did
