Brian Jennings :
never thought that a lot of people don't know about oxen they are what built this country they are much stronger than horses but a lot slower so the pioneers used oxen to break the ground the first few years when it was tough going then they got horses because they are faster.

Cows, aka oxen, helped settlers conquer the west. They pulled wagons, plows, carts, etc. So cool to see the tradition alive today.

I too have taught my bovine to pull wagons, carts, implements and to be rode via saddle too! A bovine taught to do work like this makes it an ox. They can pull 200% of thier bodyweight.

Did you know mini cows can run significantly faster than full size cows? You’re brave because my mini Herefords would be pulling me 80mph anywhere they thought was fun 😂 Sometimes they go so fast their legs blur. I was in SHOCK the first time they went on a joy run lol

Historian here based in New England. The number of photographs and drawings I’ve seen of milkmaids with their cows attached to a cart whether they are walking beside them or riding on the cart with astound people. Women got things done.

Plus training them for something like this tends to make them more docile and earlier to handle, thus making them safer to be around. I'm getting water buffalo when we get land, and am definitely training them to pull a cart!
