also it’s been long enough since i originally posted this to say “sh!t got insane” was code for “i had to be temporarily relocated by my bosses because a recently fired co-worker was unable to accept he had been fired & kept showing up while i was on shift”

Hamilton is another good example. Like it includes more POC but can’t meaningfully discuss race meta textually because most of (all?) the historical characters are white.

Is the movie the boy in the striped pajamas another example. I find the fact that the movie centres a German family that is directly involved with the Nazis and ends with their little boy dying cuz of his friendship with a Jewish boy makes the family's loss the real tragedy. It's almost like movie said that was the family's punishment for their involvement and that's why you shouldn't side with hate bcuz it could your people victimized

Yes to all of this, but especially the part about white audiences engaging with oppression through allegory and metaphor. I always think of how much of The Hunger Games, and lots of Dystopia fiction, is just "What if white people experienced a stylized version what black people already go through" and as a young white guy in the Obama era I ate it up for a long time.
