Speeding Driver Jailed After Serious A52 Crash A driver who caused a serious collision on the A52 in Nottinghamshire while speeding has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Rhys Courtney, 22, was driving dangerously close to other vehicles near Bramcote at around 10pm on 18 January last year when the crash occurred. Nottinghamshire Police officers attended the scene and found three vehicles involved, including a car that had been struck from behind and forced off the road. A woman travelling in the vehicle suffered a broken collarbone and required surgery. The male driver sustained significant bruising, while a dog in the car also required veterinary treatment. Courtney, of Carlton, was arrested nine days after the incident. During questioning, he initially told officers he had been travelling at between 60 and 70mph after deciding to drive around the area with a friend. However, mobile phone footage later showed his silver Seat rapidly approaching the vehicle ahead before colliding with it as he attempted to swerve. After being shown the footage, Courtney admitted he had been driving too fast and said the incident had made him a more cautious driver. He later pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. At Nottingham Crown Court on 4 March, Courtney was sentenced to 18 months in prison and disqualified from driving for two years and nine months. He must also pass an extended driving test before being permitted to drive again. An appeal against the sentence has since been rejected. PC Pip Luxton said Courtney was fortunate that nobody lost their life as a result of his reckless actions. Inspector Usha Madara added that the case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that can result from dangerous and irresponsible driving. #recky_drivers #brum #vw #golf #golfr
