@drtoddphillips: People often ask why I don’t stitch, remix, or respond to every Christian or atheist creator who critiques one of my videos. Some response videos are thoughtful. But a lot of online debate content rewards taking one sentence out of context, attacking the weakest version of someone’s argument, and creating conflict instead of real conversation. That isn’t why I built this channel. I engage with comments, respond to DMs, answer legitimate questions, and listen when someone shows me I got something wrong. But my goal is not to win religious debates on the internet. A question I have struggled with is how the scholars I leaned into after leaving church - PhD scholars in ancient Hebrew and Greek and Aramaic....the ones who spent their lives studying the Bible's original texts and all that surround it ... how have they not come to the same conclusion? This baffles me and it's part of why I have struggled I think. I was two feet in but the more I studied...the less I believed and the more shocked I became over what I had been following for decades.

“…and their certainty falls apart.” This is how it feels to me. I didn’t decide not to believe. Rhett likened it to jumping off a boat of Christian community, and how hard that choice was (the choice to leave the community instead of staying and faking it). To me, it felt like the boat broke apart and sank around me, and once I became unconvinced, it felt impossible to put the thing back together enough to float.
