You guys realize private collectors usually put these on display at museums, right? Because museums don’t always have the budget to buy complete to this extent… That’s why there are those plaques that say “courtesy of a private collector” all over the museums. They aren’t just keeping T. rex fossils in their foyer.

Buyer of this is unknown but here’s what Ken Griffin did with Apex, the stegosaurus he bought for 44 million- he funded it to be installed in the American museum of natural history so it could be studied, then cast the skeleton so it could go on tour. The host museums then makes money from extra foot traffic to see the specimen. That money goes back into research programs for the museum.
