I teach high school and you wouldn’t believe how many pencils I go through because nobody in high school has pencils! I went through two cases, 12 pack with 12 pencils, a semester. And that’s just pencils. It’s ridiculous.

AMEN!! I'm the parent that will go and buy 20 packs of crayons, 20 packs of pencils, 20 packs of markers, just because. Our teachers get the bare minimum to "supply" their room. EVERYTHING in their room comes out of their pocket

The school supplies isn’t the problem. It’s all the extra stuff. Stuff the school should supply. Like napkins, paper towels ect. I think thats what they are referring to the most. I have always bought whatever they have asked for and more. People with 5 kids really feel it. I have 3 and I felt it. Some schools require a fee on top of all the school supplies.

Yessssss girl. I homeschool and it's expensive as fuck. I thought it was wild how much the teachers asked for till I needed to school my own child and was buying stuff every week because it was lost or broke or quit working

The only thing I didn’t like was when my kids would pick out specific supplies only to have them turned in and redistributed to other students. I would buy my kids supplies and the things they specifically picked I put their names on them. I would also buy extra to donate.

Yes thank you! And I still put a TON of money into my classroom. I asked parents for snacks either for the entire class or to send their child their own snack each day for snack time…I was told I should buy it for all the kids. Meanwhile I am also buying school supplies and snacks for my own 5 children….I truly wish I could buy everything for my students but I can’t afford that
