This is random, but I remember my first year at my new school. My mom got a school supplies list and she thought it was just for me so I picked out this real big glue stick and my mom put my initials on everything and then it was in my bag and they told us to empty our bags. They put everything separately in a box and then they were just let the kids take whatever they want and then I was fighting over my glue stick and the supplies that were mine that I picked out and they were saying that you have to share. Even though it had my name on it. it’s sad you can’t even have your own school supplies.

First grade teacher here 🙋🏻♀️guarantee they will use all of those supplies, buttttt I do agree that’s a lot of materials. I give my families a list of 6 items and then optional extra things for the families who are feeling generous.

as a non-american, this is so fucking crazy to me bc wtf do you mean YOU’RE providing supplies for the school and not the other way around?? i get the stationery and all but tissues and wipes for the entire class? where the fuck are their funds for the school at? can’t even provide children with the most basic needs but they got their pockets lined up to start wars with other countries. that’s so backwards to me i’m sorry mama

Mind you the only thing a child in the uk has to take to school is a drinks bottle. The rest is all provided by the school got free, including lunch for the first 2 years of school.
