I like your videos but this is a miss. Metoo was literally about highlighting the patriarchy still has control to the degree men were SAing women with impunity. You misread this to be "women want to be believed without evidence". Rather it was highlighting that previous movements fell short of creating equality between genders but rather the patriarchy still had open reign over women's bodies.

I think you are over-simplifying both earlier feminist movements as well as MeToo. Earlier feminist waves were also co-opted by corporate capital in similar fashion. And also experienced intense backlashes. A lot of 1980s American conservative politics was just hysteria about second-wave feminism, very similar to today. And as for MeToo, it wasn’t at root a feminist movement, but an anti-sexual assault movement. Kevin Spacey didn’t assault women, and victims like Terry Crews and Brendan Fraser weren’t women either.

the me too movement wasn’t useful for societal change but it did lead to the downfall of predators like Weinstein, Spacey and Louis CK, among others so it wasn’t a complete dud. But yes it lead to a hyper vigilance and a backlash, although I think that this too will moderate itself and we will get to a happy medium, as the current situation is not sustainable either, specially in places like Southern Korea

I think for any movement to happen in this hell scape is we use identity to gather enough support for awareness, but all these movements will be co-opted over time into this system, and causes cognitive dissonance to the masses who didn't fully engage in logic.

There's a few comments saying "that wasn't what it was about, it was about...". Those comments are missing the point. At this point it doesn't matter what it was technically, theoretically, on paper "about". What matters is what it effectively became, which was essentially a cultural attitude of "women good and perfect and never lie or be wrong , men bad and evil and always lie and are wrong". The "that wasn't the point" response isnt really valid. He's describing the reality of what it became, not the intent behind it/ what it was supposed to be.

Not a very good representation of what the MeToo movement was or what its aims were. You can argue that it was co-opted by liberal feminism and thus capitalism, but the aim of MeToo was not about "reducing gender disparity" — it was specifically about raising awareness of the prevalence of unreported sexual violence.
