One year ago today, I walked into the shelter planning to foster a dog. At first, it looked like I was leaving empty-handed. Then a woman walked out with a timid, scared little dog named Rudy. They knew almost nothing about him—just that he was around 4 months old and had a heart murmur. The second I saw him, I said yes. What started as fostering lasted about five minutes. ❤️ I don’t think either of us ever planned on letting the other go. Over the past year, Rudy has been through a lot—heart tests, dental surgery, and learning that he was finally safe and loved. But the truth is, he rescued me just as much as I rescued him. When Rudy came into my life, I was fighting some of the hardest battles I’d ever faced. He gave me purpose when I felt lost, hope when I couldn’t see it for myself, and a reason to get out of bed when simply facing another day felt impossible. Through his eyes, I found joy in the world again. I truly believe Rudy came into my life exactly when he was meant to. He taught me how to care for something deeply, how to love more fully, and how to be gentler with myself. One year later, he’s still my shadow, my best friend, my adventure buddy, and one of the greatest blessings of my life. Happy Adoption Day, Rudy. Thank you for saving me.
