This tiger shark took interest in me as soon as I started to sink down in the water column, she locked in and started heading straight to me. I reached my hand out to create space and the second I felt her turning off and not pushing into me I removed my hand And watched her cruise by. - There is this huge drastic difference in the way people view sharks. There is the complete fear and demonization of them, but there is also the complete lack of fear and love and people have started referring to them as sea ‘puppies’ - Both of those views are dangerous, fear and demonization of them leads to the crazy population decline that we see in their numbers now, but the complete lack of fear leads to this false sense of security where people tend to forget they are highly capable apex predators that have been around for years. - My view of them sits somewhere in the middle. I love these animals, they are not man eating monsters but they are top apex predators and stepping into their environment the encounters are all on their terms. If they were out to get us and humans were on their menu sharing the water with them like this would not be possible. They have survived 400 million years, longer than trees have been around, they are the much needed rulers of the deep and demand our respect and our protection as their number start to decline rapidly due to human impact #OceanLife #sharks #freediving #conservation #hawaii
