As long as those US carrier groups are parked in the Arabian Sea, the strait is contested. Even if Iran could destroy every US military base in the region, which is a tall order, Even if the IRGC could destroy the 2 US carrier groups there now, America still have 9 more. The Gulf countries, even traditional Iran allies like Oman don’t want the IRGC to institute the tolling system, they are siding with the US, not because they like Trump, because it’s in their own economic self-interest to do so. The US will never topple the IRGC with air power alone, but they can damage the country very badly if they want to. (Google Operation Linebacker, 1972, and see what Nixon did to North Vietnam, America has committed war crimes before)
