Ah is this in response to people questioning why there were 9+ flights squawking low fuel at Gatwick yesterday? If everyone is flying on the legal minimum for their route then everyone is going to run out at about the same time 🙂

planning to land a 73 at dest with 2 ton is bullshit , its a ton to alt plus 15 min hold at alt your in big trouble and declaring Maday fuel ,

These little changes are fascinating for how much they save at scale. But, I'm curious to see if what happens with experiments with putting electric motors in the wheels for taxi, and if hybrid electric systems like what Honda uses for cars can be implemented in aircrafts. The biggest issue for battery electric vehicles is the weight of the battery system, and that's especially a problem for aircraft, where the benefits of getting lighter as fuel burns over a the course of a flight is valuable. For reference, the FHEV Honda Civic only weighs 120 kg more than its ICE version, and the battery itself only weighs about 35 kg, whereas the battery alone in a Tesla Y weighs 540 kg. If PHEV or FHEV technology can be successfully implemented on aircrafts, cost savings on fuel and the emission reductions would be enormous

I hated flying for an LCC where we usually had enough fuel for one approach attempt and then off to alternate. Cargo we don’t care about fuel costs, customer pays the fuel bill and we don’t stress about fuel.

When I fly the 737 in the sim I always land and take off without the retractable landing lights during daytime and with good visibility because they won't do anything under those conditions.

Some of the level of detail put into these miniscule (but valuable at scale) improvements are astounding. I mean Ryanair switched to a cheaper and lighter packaging for the milk sachets you get with your coffee and tea. (It's also better in my opinion, especially at altitude.)
