Eh. Walt Disney recreated his own hometown downtown in Main Street USA and the adults of the 50s, who had grown up in places like that, loved it. Then the 80s and 90s were FULL of 50s themed restaurants like Johnny Rockets because the adults of the 90s had grown up in the 50s. People have felt this way always

I see it as a hobby. I think it only becomes maladaptive if you’re in that room 90% of the time to convince yourself it’s that time period 🤷🏼♀️

I’m all for it. The majority of what’s being used to create these spaces are vintage items…keeping them out of landfill and giving them a new life. It can also be healing to some people especially with childhood trauma, creating new memories with items from the past. It can also be a way to slow down and unwind in a fast paced, and at times overstimulating world.

It also feels maladaptive because you’re spending more of your time and resources on reconstructing the past as you remember it instead of focusing your time and resources on creating the future in our current time(which kinda makes sense bc the economy is pretty bad rn😫)

Or it can be incredibly healing, to honor your inner child and hold space for them in ways that couldn't be held when you were actually that age. Many parentified children have their childhood stolen from them and if they want to buy themselves the doll or toy that they couldn't have as a child, it's not our business to pass judgment on it especially since it's not our money.

I’ve been trying to convince my husband to get an old box tv. I like the rounded tv and I like the sound it makes when you turn it on. Also I like the blur and the grit.

my parents completely renovated my childhood home. it hurt to see it all go, I would love to return everything to the way it used to be, but its also helped me cope with the fact that things will never be the way they used to be, I literally cant go back to my childhood in the 90s, I'm a grown up now. I love decadeology and vintage and love these time capsule rooms, but this happens in the toy collecting community too, too many people use it as a bandaid solution to the pain of realizing how much time has past and that we are getting older. does that make sense to anybody else
