75% of office jobs can be done at home!!! I'm so sick of everyone trying to get people in office or not offering at home or hybrid positions.

Sounds like a contract renegotiation. You want me in office that’ll be 20-40k increase in comp

they would need to provide a different contract when you go from remote to hybrid if you were hired remote which btw, you can refuse to sign

Every employment contract has a clause in it that says that they can change the terms of the contract as they see fit. I don't agree with it but guaranteed it's in there.

A lot of these comments don’t realize that she’s in Canada. Not every country has horrible labour laws like the states 🙄

😩😩😩 I wish this is how it worked. I am being forced back into the office from a remote position. It is going to add a 64 mile trip in two hours of drive time a day. We are given no option and this is a huge major financial institution.

yeah uh they cannot unilaterally change your contact. if your employment contract says WFH you are WFH until you sign a new agreement

doesn't work like that. as long as they give you so many days notice they can change your work schedule and location.

That sounds like you need to be taken up to an HR thing. And I will be emailing HR this conversation as well.

If “remote” is in your contract for the role they cannot make you commute to the office.

I literally drive 1.5 hours one way twice a week for one meeting that could be a zoom. I put up with it because I’m lucky to be employed but it makes no sense for anyone.

Nah, if I was hired as fully remote, and didn't live anywhere near the office, the answer would be 'absolutely not without compensation' driving an hour and a half one way would be half a tank of gas for most people. having to get gas literally every day would be ridiculous.

Contract verbiage is important. If you’re hired for a remote role it’s up to you to read the language of your contract and what it says about the employer’s ability to change the role’s location, and if there’s no contract you don’t really have a recourse except quitting.

If your contract and signature says remote work, they can't do a thing. Don't sign the hybrid. If they fire you, sue

I'm amazed at the number of bootlickers in this comment section. if you get hired into a position that's a remote position, they cannot change the job requirements like that. if it was a a an office job that they moved to remote during the pandemic then they have the leverage to do that. people saying this is bad advice. well hopefully never be in a management position because they're going to cost their company a lawsuit

In UK that would be classed as constructive dismissal - and they’d have a lawsuit on their hands
