When instructions give me "cook for X-Y minutes" I usually use the average time between the suggested minutes. The math in my head: "If it says to cook for 12-14 minutes, I'll take the 12 and 14, add them to make 26, next divide the 26 in half, and BOOM! 13 minutes time to cook!"
