no need for the paper towel. wash the potato, poke holes in the potato with a fork and put it in the microwave for 5-7 mins.

I microwave potatoes all the time without the paper towel. they come out perfect. one trick though is when you take it out bang it on the table. a restaurant worker showed us that is what they do to make the inside all loose and fluffy
