Do not fall for this trap. If they mess your payment plan up when you recertify, they will with no hesitation pull out thousands from your account and you’ll have a hell of a time ever seeing it again

My sons loans don’t start repayment until December (he just graduated in May). Can I still take advantage of this by signing up now?

Setting auto pay is one thing right for 1% interest rate reduction but it's not enough to tackle principal loan balance. Unpaid interest rate accrues every single day, whether it's on IBR, ICR, or PAYE, whereas RAP, however, has zero negative amortization; in other words, the government waives unpaid accrued interest if paid full on-time for every month.

Can you explain why people do consolidation? I have heard pro and cons.

I thought the RAP plan didn’t allow for negative amortization? If your payment is $0 anything over your minimum monthly payment that accrues will be written off I.e. your balance won’t grow if you’re on RAP.

How did you consolidate your loans without going private and then how does the 1% apply? That’s supposed to be only federal
