Söz konusu böcek videolarının temel çıkış noktası, bazı internet kullanıcılarının ‘cockroach’ (hamamböceği) benzetmesi üzerinden Türkleri hedef alan ırkçı ve ayrımcı bir nefret söylemi üretme çabasıdır. Türk toplumunu ‘istenmeyen’, ‘sayıca çok’ veya ‘yok edilmesi gereken’ bir grup gibi gösterme amacı güden bu karalayıcı ifade, aslında bilinçli bir provokasyon olarak tasarlanmıştır. Ancak bu girişim, Türk kullanıcıların bu söylemi ciddiye almayıp tam tersine büyük bir özgüven ve ironiyle sahiplenmesi sonucunda tamamen ters tepmiştir. Türkler, kendilerine yöneltilen bu ırkçı yaftadan rahatsız olmak yerine, durumu mizah ve ‘shitposting’ kültürünün bir parçası haline getirerek bu saldırıyı etkisiz kılmış, hatta kendi lehine bir absürt komedi malzemesine dönüştürmüştür. Böylece, nefret söylemi olarak kurgulanan bu saldırı, hedeflenen topluluğun güçlü mizah anlayışı karşısında gücünü yitirerek amacından saptırılmıştır.The main starting point of the insect videos in question is the attempt of some internet users to produce racist and discriminatory hate speech targeting Turks through the analogy of ‘cockroach’. This slanderous statement, which aims to portray the Turkish society as an ‘undesirable’, ‘numerous’ or ‘needed to be destroyed’ group, was actually designed as a conscious provocation. However, this initiative completely backfired as Turkish users did not take this discourse seriously and, on the contrary, embraced it with great self-confidence and irony. Instead of being disturbed by this racist label directed at them, Turks neutralized this attack by making the situation a part of humor and ‘shitposting’ culture, and even turned it into an absurd comedy material in their favor.
