We are having a conversation about US safety right now 😂! A list just came out from an organization that rates countries by safety once a year . The Uk is near the top , the US is near the bottom . BuT the US a Huge country , and the unsafe places are very concentrated in specific blocks in cities scattered all across the country . Can you find a dangerous place to live here ? Absolutely . But the vast majority of the country is vey safe on a day to day basis .

It’s really dependent where you live in the US. Boston is overall super safe and nice to live in compared to other cities in the US

The US, particularly the northeast, has a very strong sense of community. A lot of people don’t see it because we do have a reputation for being cold and standoffish. It’s more that we’re clannish: suspicious of outsiders, but once you’re ours you’re ours for life. If you look at how the area was settled and developed, it makes sense. If we hadn’t looked out for one another in 1620 we wouldn’t have survived. Even if we don’t like you personally, we’ll typically still have your back.

I live in a medium size town of 200,000 people in California whenever we wanna get rid of something, furniture bike, barbecue children's toys, we have to put a free sign on it. Otherwise no one will take it.

I don’t think we have very much petty crime in America. Nobody cares enough about Prams to steal one. We just don’t have very many pick pockets or minor petty theft. I am 68 and have never had anything stolen or any crime. I am not worried about someone smashing my car window and stealing things. Of course if there is a bad neighborhood I won’t park my car there. I have been watching YouTube videos of a UK couple taking a road trip across the US and this couple is so terrified of someone stealing their suitcases out of their car they go to places but won’t go in because they think someone is going to steal their suitcases. They can be in the middle of the desert all alone and they think someone is going to steal their suitcases. It is sad. Who wants to steal a suitcase full of used clothes and old underwear? No one!. If we do have crime here it is something big and dramatic like gang violence or a mass shooter.

In my experience danger varies GREATLY in terms of how it manifests in different places. We act as though all risks are universal but they aren’t. For example, in Europe you have to be on guard for pickpockets. In America you’re way more likely to get mugged at gunpoint/knife if someone wants to steal your valuables. The way you handle / protect yourself from each situation is very different. The cultural variances of what is “unsafe” are fascinating

You are in a rather wealthy part of Boston in Massachusetts. We are one of the safest states in the entire country. Meanwhile my car got stolen out of my friends driveway when we were visiting them in Malden 😂

Go camping, at least in Arkansas, you can leave your tent, food, and all other belongings, and they will not be touched. Same for the beaches in Florida and Alabama
