when i got hired in MARCH mind you, my employer asked if i had any trips planned in the next 6 months or something so i was like well i AM going to Japan in october for two weeks. she continuously through the next two months kept telling me she doesn’t think she can get the whole thing covered and im like well im not gonna be here that whole time so if you schedule me i genuinely cannot come in im not in the country. now in JULY the other day she was like yeah so im not going to be able to give you the whole two weeks off. i told her well then you better start investing in another shift lead by then because i will be quitting in October as I gave you plenty of notice and I was the only person that had time off FIRST in october so i should be getting priority as its first come first serve. needless to say she hasn’t said anything to me since about my trip so we will see what happens lol

deadass if i request off over a month in advance, that is a for sure i’m not coming. If they still schedule me, i’ll talk to them and tell them that im not coming in and that i gave them enough time to prepare.

my old co-worker before i left said she took off a week of work to go to disneyland in 2024, she was going again in 2025 at the time and asked for it off but they said she couldn’t do that for another two years??? a part time front end(cashier) grocery worker job btw, a WEEK.

My employer denied my two week request for study abroad - I told them when they hired me that I would be gone those weeks & then go back to college & wouldn't be available until the next break. They said no problem. Then, at the last minute they scheduled me when I was supposed to catch my flight & I told them that. She told me to "figure it out." I no-call, no-showed - have fun working that extra shift, boss! Got a job that paid better & that I loved a week after going back to school.

I’ve booked of 6 months in advance for 3 days off and they looked mw dead in my face and said idk. I told them “I promise you I will quit on the spot “ Anyways I still work there and I got the days off but it’s a ridiculous world out there

So many employers pull this shit just to see if they can get away with it. My old manager when I was a waitress did it when I told him during my job interview I had a pre-planned trip for new years (7 months away) and would be out for a week. When I offered to drop off my uniform before leaving for my holiday, all of the sudden we didn’t need to be so hasty 💀

Jobs are just as replaceable as the people that work for them. If you died tomorrow they’d fill your position. Never let a job dictate whether you can/can’t do something. Crazy they’d presume you were asking and not just letting them know.

If I ask for time off, that means I’m not coming in. It’s not asking approval, it’s basically I’m telling you I’ll be off these days whether they “approve” it or don’t. I really don’t care if a job would fire me over that. It’s my life. I’m not going to be controlled by an employer deciding if it’s ok or not ok with them if I ask for time off… 🤷🏻♀️
