@learnfromchrist: The word Scripture uses when it says confess your sins does not mean say sorry. The Greek word is homologeo. Homo — same. Logos — word. To say the same word as someone else. Not to apologize. To agree. Instead of calling a short fuse a personality trait call it what Scripture calls it — wrath. Instead of calling constant worrying just how you are wired call it anxiety rooted in unbelief. Confession is agreeing with his word instead of your softer version of it. Most Christians have spent their whole lives apologizing to God. Scripture was never asking for an apology. It was asking for agreement. And that is where forgiveness starts. #Jesus #Bible #Christian #BibleStudy #Faith

Homologeo appears throughout the New Testament and is translated as confess in almost every English Bible. But the word itself is not about admission or apology — it is about agreement. Homo means same. Logos means word. To say the same thing as. When 1 John 1:9 says confess your sins it is asking you to align your words with God's assessment of what happened. Call it what he calls it. Not a mistake — wrath. Not a struggle — sin. Not a personality trait — selfish ambition. The moment you stop softening the language and start using his language something shifts. You stop arguing with God about what happened and start standing on the same side as him. That is where forgiveness actually begins. And it matters that Scripture never calls you your sin. Paul calls believers saints in 1 Corinthians 1:2. 2 Corinthians 5:17 calls you a new creation. Confession agrees with God about the act — not a condemnation of the person.
• 1 John 1:9 — "If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us."
• Romans 10:9 — "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord you will be saved."
• Colossians 3:8 — "Put away anger wrath malice."
• 1 Corinthians 1:2 — "Called to be saints."
