treating your kids like this is a damn near guaranteed way to make sure that the second they turn 18 they have nothing to do with you ever again. I've seen that first hand, I've had friends whose parents are this bad and in some cases worse and they haven't talked to them in decades. one of them had a mother who was so convinced they were going to end up dead in a dick that she didn't even bother to keep track of her son. wasn't until a family reunion that she decided to crash because nobody liked her and nobody invited her that she found out that her son was doing fairly decent for himself, he had a good job, a wife, and 3 kids. she was all kinds of mad at her ex-husband for not telling her, he very bluntly explained that he had no requirement to tell her anything because they were divorced. for the very same reason that she had no clue about her son's life. she was a severe control freak and wanted to be the boss of everything. even after all their problems she still tried to insert her self into her grandkids lives without permission and ended up getting a restraining order.
