@kelseyalfred: 🩶✨ hip replacement recovery: day 2 💙 Is this amount of pain normal…? 🤍 Day 2 has been one of the hardest parts of recovery so far. I’m sharing what my pain has been like, how I’m managing it with pain medication, and the uncertainty that comes with wondering what’s expected versus what might be a sign that something isn’t right. Recovery can be both physical and mental, especially when you don’t know what’s “normal.” I’m sharing my honest experience in hopes it helps someone else feel less alone. #HipReplacementRecovery #RecoveryDay2 #AnteriorHipReplacement #SticklerSyndrome #HipReplacementJourney

I had this happen on day 2. It was the nerve blocker that wore off all at once. I promise you it gets better! I’m day 11 right now and it’s loads better. Take it slow, PT will work with you because they don’t want you to be in pain either! Be easy on yourself!

I was in soooo much pain the first week but I didn’t have the nausea, I DEFINITELY could not have had PT in the first week for sure, just moving to the bathroom was excruciating, so don’t feel like you’re the only one, this surgery for me was way worse than having 2 kids naturally and one emergency c section

sorry you are in so much pain! I've been silently following your journey. I had my hip replacement on 7/6 and I'm 42 but no other issues. My journey has been quite the opposite of yours. Pain has been minimal but very swollen and sore/stiff. Hoping you start to feel better soon and they can get a good medicine regimen down for you! thinking of you! ❤️‍🩹🫂

You might be having some nerve pain especially if it’s stabbing pain. Ask about medication for nerve pain if it continues. (Ortho nurse here and also a hip surgery patient)

The pain the first 3 days after surgery was the worst pain I have ever experienced. I was nauseous from the pain. Day 4 was much better. I started PT on day 5 and came home took pain meds and fell asleep I just finished PT on day 6 post op- I’m still in pain but it’s so much better than just a few days ago

try laying down not sitting in an upright position locking your hips and ice and elevate . . I had posterior 4 months and ago never experienced any pain after leaving the surgery center.. I was also walking every hour to keep things moving.. I see so many people say posterior is worse than anterior but Alot of the posts I see people who have anterior are Alot worse off... hope it gets better for you!

You can take 10 mg of the oxycodone before PT comes. How many milligrams are you taking?

I have had both mine done. My first one was so easy, no pain, I could walk with no walker on day 5. Now my second one has been so painful, yours sounds just like mine, the pain was horrible for the first 5 days, my knee pain was horrible. I promise it will get better. I’m 5 weeks out now and doing so much better.

My father had both hips replaced 3 times and he said the first one was extremely painful and this last one was due to scar tissue etc I’ll ask him what he has for resources that helped him. Feel better sweetie 💜
