Most mechanics will help. You are referring to most likely a shop manager or a service writer. Most mechanics go above and beyond to help people and especially a woman.

Have to feed my family between parts and labor. I don’t make money doing things for free. Only thing free are inspections outside that shop requires money. Shop has bills I have bills.

I’m sorry but why would the mechanic lose a wage then. So the mechanic needs to sacrifice his wage over yours. That shop has to feed his employees and feed his family to. No one cares that the mechanic has to feed his family to. you calling mechanics to help but who helps the mechanic and if he makes one small mistake he’s called a scammer or crooked. That mentality is what’s wrong. A mechanic has to provide for himself/herself to make a living wage as well!

Guy every single person has an excuse and if we did those every time then every single shop would close down. Everybody has the same opportunity to learn what I did. Dont bat your eyes at me when I hand you the bill. You could have been learning to do it yourself this entire time.

man human beings forgot how to be human beings. I helped a guy in O'Reilly's parking lot one time because he was in need and I didn't know him from Adam but I took a few minutes out of my time to help him out and he just happened to be the manager to the restaurant next door and I ate absolutely free for the next month and that was on him he did that for me. don't get me wrong I would not sit in the parking lot and do a full brake job for somebody for free but small things that can get people on their way if I can handle it and it doesn't cost me half a day then why wouldn't I do it

everyone expects the tech's to work for free, everyone wants something for nothing., after so many years you just don't want to hear it no more. tech's get screwed by the shop, the service writers, corporations, and customers. do you ask your doctor or dentist or electrician to work for free, so why should we.

I don’t know how I got on this side of TikTok. I am a mechanic and I’ve seem to be fighting everybody today on proper brake repair. Yeah that guy absolutely tried to rip you off for $1200 and I understand the frustration and I’m sorry you had to go through that but I truly believe there are more good mechanics than thieves. And that other shop was a bunch of thieves.

imma go out on a limb here, first, techs can be held responsible for poor quality repairs. second, if a brake hose caused a caliper to stick it's likely pads, rotors, etc. were all heat damaged, could you put a hose on it and drive it around? yes. should you? no. was the piston seal damaged? does the crystallized pad have enough friction to properly stop? I feel you aren't telling the whole story if the estimate was 1200.00.
