Thanks for the classification, folks! Thunder Bay as a city is not on fire, but huge swathes of the district are. Also, forest fires are obviously a natural phenomenon that occur every year, but the ferocity and uncontrollability of it is a new phenomenon exacerbated by climate change, and what’s worse is, our response to it, since the very tools that are used for battling forest fires have been taken away from fire fighters and Doug Ford’s government continues to deplete their budget.

Thunder Bay as a city is not on fire. We do have a fire ban and a mild “be prepared for evacuation” warning from our city. Our district is on fire. It is raining ash in the city. It’s very unsettling. We are so remote here, and with fires on both sides (near wawa), it would make a city wide evacuation near impossible. Thankfully my family has passports, so we could reach southern Ontario and stay with family by going through the states if needed.

Hi from Thunder Bay. Nature started these fires. It’s very dry and hot and wild lightning storms passed across the region on the weekend. Those storms had very little rain and intense lightening. Add in the lack of preparedness by the province and boom - catastrophe
