@kiwiamericans: New Zealand school year-round? Yes! They don't do summer breaks like the US. Moving mid-term is totally fine. #NewZealand #StudyAbroad #TravelTips #Education #LifeInNZ
What? We literally have summer break… schools out dec/jan for summer break then the school year starts so moving Nov makes perfect sense to align with summer and start of school year

Coming in the middle of term 2 or 3, the kids are missing out on the first half of the year's instruction. This is OK for primary, even though testing might be a little tumultuous. For secondary this is a particular problem, as the assignments that make up the final years grades will have been missed. Sure, your kids will be able to move to the next year level, but they'll be behind in the credits if they want to pursue university courses after finishing secondary school- this is a disadvantage.

We are trying to move next summer from the U.S., this will be mid school year for NZ but my kids will co.plete their grades. would they repeat the last half of their completed grade,go into the next year in NZ, or would there be placement testing?

Got lots of teens failing their upper high school years because their parents believe this.... sure, come in September. but don't get pissed when your kid fails that year and has to repeat or can continue but only in non-uni entrance subjects.
