@thesiliconsiren: She’s wide, beige, powerful, and could command a room full of terminals. Meet my Datapoint 6600! I’m in love, obviously 🥰 A beast of a machine from a nearly forgotten company with a serious claim to the first personal computer, and a direct connection to Intel’s earliest microprocessors. Also, why is that screen so wide? Full story coming soon! #retrocomputer #retro #Tech #vintagecomputer #computerhistory

I remember not being allowed to touch one of those at work. I also remember VT52 and vt100. I believe that company became Dyna Corp ultimately.

Incredible to think of multiple programs running with os in 120k ram. Amazing what can be done without gui interfaces.

my dad was deemed important enough to work from home in 1977. we had a Datapoint 1170 and it would call into the main office nightly so no one could use the phone from 9PM to 6AM due to the 110 baud modem. four 8" floppy drives (before cassette drives i think)

I’m from San Antonio. We also had SWTPc—UniFLEX OS. And…I worked out of Datapoint for a few years when it was occupied by Rackspace. Oh, and Datapoint was an early contributor to 802.11 — WiFi.

I used to own an Apple 2000 business computer. I paid like $700-800 back in the early 80’s. I was told it was like $40 grand when they came out. It had lots of software huge floppy disks. It was quite a procedure to type in commands. Something that no one will appreciate or understand nowadays. I think they were very rare. I had never seen one since.

I used to install accounting and traffic systems back in the early 80s for radio stations on Datapoint systems. I loved the shake and bake hard drives. So cool to see one again
