The only live action adaptations I like are the Scooby Doo movies mostly because they're campy and the giant talking dog is a big puppet instead of a real life dog. Though I am looking forward to the prequel with the real dog playing Scooby because he's just so darn cute.

One of my biggest takes in this argument is that you can put so much more intent in animation. Every piece of the art, expression, set pieces, movement, all of it becomes part of the story. Arcane is a great example because they took so much time to work in even minute facial expression changes and background details that came up later. Live action has a hard time keeping up there because you can't always control every single variable in a scene the same way.

My conspiracy is that studios saw how successful the Maleficent movie was, and they're trying to recreate that success without taking into account that the reason why the Maleficent movie was so successful as it offered a different perspective and gave more character and motivation to a character we didn't know much about and showed how power, greed and paranoia erodes people. I also believe that live action remakes are a contributor to current media literacy crisis

im a huge animation lover and loooove attla. i also love the percy jackson books and watched the two first season of the new pj live action. the percy live action is more bearable to me. avatar feels more like a easy nostalgia cash grab. wanting to do their own thing with a loved franchise without fully understanding the importance of alot of things. the percy jackson ine feels more of a passion project with rick still involved so the changes (TO ME) seem to feel more natural then avatar. god the lettuce leaf moment in the avatar live action! 🤦♀️

Live action adaptations feel like they’re inherently putting down animation it’s like they took an animated film and said “wow this is so great if only it was a real movie!” Cause live action doesn’t really add anything, it just takes away a lot more artistry and expression for what? Unless you believe somethings inherently wrong with animation there’s no reason you would turn it into live action

I was visiting my dad recently & we were re-watching Blue Eyed Samurai & he said, “I like this show, but it would be better if it was live action.” We got into an actual fight over this. It is that serious!

YES there's so much soul in the animation. The remakes are just trying to milk more money out of us with as little effort as possible. People talking about Ghibli live action I want to scream.

This is exactly my issue. Live action is more limited in the kind of movement that really only animation can give us.

I KEEP SAYING THIS!! If anything, we need animated adaptations way more than we need live action ones. Live action is more restrictive.

The live action One Piece adaptation is one I can get behind, because the world of One Piece is so expansive and uncharted that there’s plenty of room for the writers to take creative liberties and not just retell the story of Luffy bar-for-bar again. Plus it’s a great way to introduce people to the franchise without having to convince them to watch a 1000+ episode anime

They also got rid of Aangs goofy silliness and made him way too serious! The live actions are usually made for a money grab and not for the love of the source material.

My one exception is One Piece live action, since One Piece's pacing is pretty bad, but I also enjoy Sanji not being a creep. I know animation is always the best, I definitely dislike live action adaptations of every thing else. It's never right.

as an animator live action fundamentally disrespects animation as a "serious" medium. When making an animated film/series the character designs, environmental designs, pacing and even dialogue are catered to that specific medium these are then again influenced by the type of animation that's being used (traditional 2d, digital traditional 2d, puppet 2d, 3d, mixed medium, stop motion, CGI, Etc). The characters in bluey are designed the way they are because it uses puppet rigging 2d animation and they are designed in a way thats catered to the limitations of the programs used to make it. Arcane is designed the way it is because its 3d so the designs can be alot more inteicate and complicated without having to worry if people will stay on modle when animating each scene. The script has to be a bit more forward with infomation compared to live action because we aren't watching real actors make tinni minute expressions on their face that add an extra layer of subtext to whats being said - animation CAN do those things but each extra expression takes time and money so you can't rely on that the same way you can in live action. Which is why live action adaptations - even when done well - tend to feel a bit corny or like there pandering - unless you have a team of REALLY good writers and directors that understand and respect the original medium enough to know what needs to change and how to translate it an even with that it's still likely to loose alot of the og charm, because the charm comes FROM THE MEDIUM ITS SET IN. The large majority of remakes are done as easy and safe money grabs with no respect to the original and the team that created it. Also the argument that remakes allows for a broader audience to see it since not everyone likes animation is a stupid argument because films are made with niche audiences in mind. you physicly cannot make a good story if you are catering to everybody, it's like the first thing you learn about script writing, you gotta know your target audience. things are allowed to not be for everyone. also I know the argument is stupid because why aren't there more animated remakes of live action?

HtTYD was the *only* live-action remake i even remotely wanted to see, and I did love it, but the entire genre is NOT NECESSARY as a whole.
