🚨 Joao Pedro on what people misunderstand about Pedro Neto at Chelsea: “Sometimes I think people see Pedro playing wing-back and assume he’s been moved away from the attack. You should come and watch him in training. He hasn’t moved away from anything. When the manager started using him there, I remember joking, ‘Pedro, so you’re a defender now?’ He looked at me and said, ‘Only when they have the ball.’ And that is probably the best way to explain him. Of course, he has to defend. He takes that responsibility seriously. You see him sprinting back, helping the centre-backs, making tackles. Then we win the ball and somehow he’s the first person asking for it at the other end. Sometimes I’m thinking, weren’t you just next to our goalkeeper? That’s the part people don’t appreciate enough. Everybody likes a winger who scores goals. But when a player is doing the running of two positions and still has the energy to make the right decision in front of goal, that’s something special. Before the Everton match, we knew it would be difficult. They hadn’t lost in the league, and they were very organised. At half-time it was still 0–0. Nobody was panicking. The manager spoke to us, we knew what spaces we wanted to attack, and Pedro was listening like everybody else. Then we come back out and he scores almost immediately. I went over to celebrate and asked him, ‘Pedro, how did you manage to get yourself so much space?’ He smiled and said, ‘You’re João Pedro. I’m Pedro Neto. Maybe they were watching the wrong Pedro.’ I started laughing. What could I say? He’d just scored, so I wasn’t going to argue with him. But what impressed me even more was what happened afterwards. He didn’t score and decide his work was finished. He kept running. Kept defending. Kept creating chances for the rest of us. And near the end, he scores again. Two goals, five chances created, and people are still discussing whether he should be in Chelsea’s best attack. I think Pedro has made his opinion quite clear. We have Palmer, Morgan, Estêvão, so many talented players. Everyone wants to play, and that’s good for Chelsea. But the manager doesn’t just ask who can do something beautiful with the ball. He asks who will do the difficult things when we don’t have it. Pedro gives you both. There’s a funny thing about sharing a name with him. Someone in training shouts, ‘Pedro, run!’ and we both look around. Lately, I’ve started telling them, ‘Be specific. If you need somebody to run the entire length of the pitch, you want the other Pedro.’ I’m joking, but that’s what he brings us. People can keep drawing their dream Chelsea front line without him. That’s their choice. The nice thing for Pedro is that while they’re deciding where he fits on a piece of paper, he’s already found his place on the pitch. And against Everton, he made sure everybody noticed.” [ This is the source @ChinoUTD ]#chelsea #everton #chelseafc #creatorsearchinsight #capcut
