First, can we all agree, this isn't a "RACE" issue, it's an issue of "MORALITY". If you have no morals, you have no issue doing this. Legally speaking,a $500 restaurant bill in California is still below the $950 threshold, so if prosecutors believe the family intentionally left without paying, it would generally be prosecuted under California Penal Code § 537 (defrauding an innkeeper) as a misdemeanor. The maximum penalties can include up to 6 months in county jail, a fine of up to $1,000 or both. And that applies to everyone in the group. The adults can also be charged for the delinquency of a minor.
