@gavinni258: Question for Iranian people about a Chinese gesture that many people might see from Chinese TV shows. Is it came from Iran? #cdrama #iran #china
This is a persian mazdayasna gesture, the interlocking symbolizes a secret, typically done when showing you will keep a promise

Fun fact: following the Arab conquests, the last Zoroastrian rulers of Persia fled to Tang China, and proceeded to assimilate into the local Chinese population, creating a fusion Chinese-Persian culture

As an iranian who's obsessed with chinese history this is a big day for me 😂. It's hard to find the gesture in persian without knowing the name of it. You're gonna need an expert this is a tough one.

In fact, this hand gesture evolved from the etiquette of the Xianbei, a nomadic ethnic group in northern China.

It’s called a بیلاخ. Pronounced beelakh. More commonly done one handed. Generally behind the back of someone one can’t over-power. It can also start one on one fights or group fights if enough cousins are around. Also done at the end of the fight. Very versatile. Hope this helps.

Now I'm curious: did any deep relationship exist between Iranian influence and ancient China, and how deep was it?

yes..in the cdramas ive watched, the Persians trade with China. Modern items..even perfume?...no wonder they are connected in history. It dates back a long long time ago.

I mean... The Silk Road traveled right through Iran... so it's entirely plausible the two cultures heavily influenced each other 💁♀️

That’s really interesting, I actually didn't know that! It’s definitely worth looking into. Still, China and Iran shared a long-term historical trade relationship and cultural exchange through that in the ancient world.
