They weren’t being greedy. The god was trying to win an argument about humans being greedy. So he gave them riches and expected them to fight over it, but they didn’t, they came up with a fair distribution for the wealth. To try to force his point, he possessed the humans into attacking him, to falsely prove his point. You can see the first attacker being pulled by an invisible force.

Except that’s literally not the point? He was being proven wrong so he affected their greed through his own powers. It’s literally the equivalent of going into a cage with meat the dog/tiger/whatever not attacking you, then you hurting it then screaming “look it’s attacking me” that’s also why the other god at the end was asking when are you gonna stop playing your games. Human nature isn’t inherently anything other than chaos, a mutable “soul/vessel/container-transceiver of energy” that grows and experiences.
