i think part of the reason emily was so cold with lorelai sometimes was jealousy. i believe she loved her husband and her life but was envious of lorelais freedom and wanted to bring her down a little to make emily feel better

This is hands down one of the best scenes in Gilmore girls. It gives us some insight into Emily, a very complicated character that goes from bad guy to good guy depending on which episode you watch. It shows a side of her that isn’t really touched on with this serious tone. It also explains so much about her character and why she does what she does and thinks what she thinks. It doesn’t excuse her poor relationship with Lorelai, but it sheds a new light on it.

I love this scene so so much. She truly loves Lorelei but they just can’t communicate. And even the that love goes both ways they’re never eye to eye. This shows how much that despite their differences, they need each other. I just hate that she was drunk telling her this. I know that’s the point it just makes it worse knowing she truly couldn’t be this vulnerable sober
