I found that wearing trail 'gtx' running shoes destroys my legs a lot less than wearing heavy dedicated hiking boots on long days. Ofc its only for skilled and experienced hikers on easy to moderate routes, but it works for me.

I learned this two months ago on a red-white. Despite wearing good shoes it was so steep and all pebbles, rolled my foot and came back home with a fracture.

This is very German although you're Austrian. I've hiked the Adirondacks, the Appalachians, the Sierras and Alps of course in running sneakers. The cushion that those sneakers give and their traction; just as good as hiking boots. Not everyone needs the ankle support.
