Pretty sure in Northern Ireland you have to legally go into the lane on your right if the person merging has no room or u need to slow down

If everyone just used their common sense accident wouldn’t happen. If you see a car trying to merge and there’s space on the right, move lanes!! So they can merge safely

It’s also helpful if those already on the motorway drive at a safe distance from the car in front, meaning those trying to join can easily sneak in front or behind. But often everyone is number to bumper flying along

Formally, yes. But in practice every sensible driver gives space to oncoming drivers because it’s safer for everyone to do so. The alternative is them having to stop completely which will create a higher crash risk downstream.

they literally teach you on driving lessons to move over if you can or slow down to let people in so they dont have to stop on the slip road

Its always been a common courtesy to move over if there is traffic on the slip road. But since lock down and the great reset, everyone has become an arsehole and developed a “me me me, i’m more important than you” selfish attitude.

theres nothing difficult about either slowing down or simply moving lanes when its safe to do so in order for someone to merge in, unless there is genuinely no space to move
