@thrivingwithhannah: They’ve decided to advertise when their emotions and sense of comradery and brotherhood are at the literal peak of their life, and massively glamorised it, and I find that utterly wrong. Of course it’s a valid career path, and unfortunately we need it, my issue is the way they are trying to recruit for it. #worldcup #falseadvertising #football #fifa #parenting
They know exactly who they’re appealing to it’s really cruel🥲

Completely agree. I also think it should be illegal to advertise gambling. Loads of my family have had major gambling addictions. Makes me so mad when I see gambling advertised in such misleading ways using language like “you’ll win if you play” “YOU could be the next millionaire” erm no

My son for years has wanted to be a pilot, now he's talking about going in the army at 16 😢. Like what an earth, his GCSEs are based on engineering to sideline becoming a pilot. I am so annoyed. 🤬

Absolutely. Hollywood is another massive recruitment/propaganda vehicle. Military sign-ups after movies like Top Gun (I know that’s an old example) shoot through the roof, and they know it.

Going to the cinema as well, just bombarded with propaganda before watching a film

But, hear me out, those boys often don’t have a plan for after school and the military is a viable option for many and can actually give them great life skills. They aren’t being signed up there and then, all the highs and lows becomes evident through recruitment and training.

I’m absolutely not a fan of the British armed services but it’s fairy reasonable to advertise to young, patriotic men at a time when young, patriotic men are likely to be watching. All advertising concentrates on the upside of their product. I’d be far more critical of poppy fever, the Proms, etc
