Day four of training my core (and pelvic floor) from home and today looks a little different. I’ve spent the last two days feeling pretty rubbish, basically stuck in bed for twenty four hours not doing much at all. So today wasn’t about pushing hard. It was about slowing right down and reconnecting with my core and pelvic floor through breath work. This is the bit so many mums skip. We rush into crunches and planks but we miss the slow controlled breath work that actually connects the pelvic floor with the core properly. Without that connection everything else is built on shaky ground. 1️⃣ Here’s how to do the 360 breath. Breathe in through the nose and let your ribs expand outward, to the sides and into the back, not just the front of your chest. Breathe out slowly through the mouth, and as you exhale, gently lift and squeeze your pelvic floor. As you continue exhaling, feel your rib cage draw back in and down, like you’re gently hugging your ribs together. Repeat slowly, keeping the movement connected to the breath the whole way through, not rushed. 2️⃣ Then I moved into thoracic twists on all fours. Breathe in as you lift one elbow up, breathe out as you thread it underneath your body into the twist. It’s brilliant for connecting the pelvic floor while getting a bit of a stretch through the spine at the same time. 3️⃣ Last one was seated hip tilts on the Pilates ball, again keeping that same breath and pelvic floor connection while getting some gentle movement in. If you want to learn the fundamentals properly, I’ve got a guided tutorial on the beginner exercises for connecting your core and pelvic floor. Comment “CORE” and I’ll send it straight over. ✨
