I am 55, diagnosed with ADHD in my mid 40's. I broke down silently because I realized that I wasn't broken, emotional, or slow. I have loved my inner child teling herbshevwas enough and embrace that I am an acquired taste. I love it and not everyone is worthy my love or time.

I’ve literally just recently come to the realization that I am generally unlikable, or rather, hard to like, especially more over time.

Even autistics piss other autistics off. 😂 We had three autistic women in the team and we just couldn't get along. We were all smart but on completely different levels. Me AuDHD, the other one Asperger, one classic.

I'm confused. What did the study show, that autistic people are judged by neurotypical ppl? Fork found in kitchen ahh study

Simster :
The neurotypical world has well established social "norms". When neurodivergent people act outside of those norms, it can be seen as weird because it's outside of behavioural expectations. That's why neurodivergent people mask. So they can fit in with the majority, who are neurotypical. You're under no obligation to "fit in" but if you choose not to, there are social consequences.

It's because people fear what they don't understand. Trouble is 'normies' can't be bothered to learn about it because it's not about them.

It’s so much worse than that. NT people dislike autistic people on sight. Even in photos.

I’ve always been pretty high masking, but apparently it wasn’t a likeable mask. I think I just creeped people out. I guess doing nothing to stand out and bring attention is just as bad as being too much. You have to be just the right amount of something, but that isn’t an inherent thing.

And yet our Rejection Sensitivity is considered “extreme” and triggered by the “perception” of.. blah blah. WTF. From google: “Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD): Often associated with ADHD, this is an extreme emotional sensitivity and pain triggered by the perception of being rejected or criticized.”

i have a theory that i havent been able to prove yet but based on my observation, the intelligent people around me likes me, the not so intelligent ones hate/dislike me right off the bat. since noticing that, i dont even care anymore when people dont like me...

Whenever I work a job it feels like the management can't stand me. My coworkers get along great with me, guests love me, but for some reason everytime my managers say I'm "not a good fit".

as a AuDHD woman I have a real personal issue with a minority of other autistic acquaintances but im also fully self aware enough to know I'm being hypocritical E.G over explain their special interests like I'm dumb (yet when I do it it's fine) abruptly ending a conversation to leave because they don't want to be in the social setting anymore (but it's ok when I do it) asking too many questions for clarity (once again absolutely valid when I do it) 🤣

Very much understand that “oh I did the wrong thing” feeling. It makes me more empathetic for other people though. It used to upset me and now I’m just like “you’ll get over it or you won’t idgaf” 😂

But to be honest the feeling is mutual. I am put off by most people. On the rare occasion I feel relaxed with someone they tend to be neurodivergent.
