A similar incident happened in Greece in February 8 1981 . So Olympiacos was playing against AEK in Georgios Karaiskakis and Olympiacos won aek 6-0. the fans were so happy that they wanted to celebrate really bad so they starting running down the stairs of the gate 7 of Olympiacos stadium but the crowd was so big and the doors at the end of the stairs were locked as a result 21 Fans got crushed to death.

also egress doors are required by code to open outwards. If you're trying to leave a building in an emergency it slows down escape by having people pull open the door (in the direction of the crowd), as opposed to just pushing thru
