@airic.z: Frugal habits that have gone too far and are just pointless. Which frugal habits do you think are pointless? I used to be a culprit of Number 4 when I used to drive #frugal #frugalliving frugality taken too far. Things I regret being too frugal on.
Finally someone who understands the true meaning of being frugal. Bradley needs to take notes.

Splurge on things that’s gonna save you money in the long run. Like a good mattress might be painfull now, but in 5-10 years your back will thank you, and so will your wallet

Getting the cheap paint vs the brand name, you’re not saving more money simply by getting the cheaper brand if it means having to do multiple coats

6. Shopping “sales” without having planned to buy something. For example, If I wasn’t planning to buy three shirts, then a 3 for $15 sale doesn’t save me money, it actually costs me $15 I wasn’t going to spend. Buying something you don’t need just because it’s on sale isn’t saving money, it’s spending money! Sales only save you money on purchases you were already planning to make. This is a good mental framework to have because it separates saving money from spending money.

I think buying a house an hour away from work because “your money went further” now you commute for two hours per day and spend more money on gas and maintenance. Also people don’t realize how valuable your time is.

Making your own laundry powder/liquid. Not only are the savings marginal imo but a lot of these recipes can damage your machines and slowly discolor your clothes.

Save up if you need for quality shoes cuz health issues later will cost you way more than what you saved on cheap ones

anything frugal that takes my time away for little to no extra is not the one for me. also food, I'd rather get the thing that tastes better. some stuff makes sense (ketchup ect) but not always

buying something JUST BECAUSE it's cheaper, when buying something more expensive but lasts longer will actually help you save more. like I used to buy this cheap conditioner, but it was very thin/watery so I ended up using a lot of pumps for each use. and I tried one that was a bit more expensive but it was thicker and I only needed to use 2 pumps max for each shower so I ended up saving WAAYYYY MORE

Hi :
Anything that puts your health in jeopardy isn't worth it. Healthcare is too expensive. Don't wash your hair in a sink with dawn and don't live in moldy places.

Instead of driving across town to fill up, I plan when I need to fill up so when I pass that petrol station I’ll try to fill up then

Buy better food. Better quality foods, you eat less of it, your gastrointestinal health in the long run will thank you & save you money. (hint: compare the cheapest canned tomatoes with the more expensive ones.....)

I live in a cold climate. Ppl who drop their home's furnace temps all day while they're gone, and then bump it up when they get home. it ends up costing more to heat your entire house (and contents) than it would have to maintain the temp.

I agree with people in the comments that the best way to save money on petrol is to be aware that you’re getting towards the end of your tank so that you can check where the cheapest stations are and fill up at the cheapest one you happen to be going past over the next week or so. Rather than having to nip to the nearest one to your house.

Cheap body wash you think of it’s 35p a bottle, not only is it poor quality you end up using it 10x faster meaning you might as well buy the £3 bottle

Dishwasher/washing machine cleaners and pretty much any soap. Get the good ones. It will make your machines last longer and stuff won’t smell bad.
