i understand where you’re coming from but i do feel that infidelity is an issue that occurs far more often than people realise, and i don’t think that it’s wrong for us to be more concerned about it or discussing it more. yes there are bigger issues but infidelity also has a substantial impact on relationships and people’s lives, especially their mental health. this isn’t really a unique singaporean phenomenon. infidelity will always gain traction because it tends to be emotionally relatable to many people. examples such as ceo andy byron and mabel’s recent incident can help other people to open up about their experiences because going through such betrayal is truly horrifying. at the same time, i also agree that there could be better ways navigating the discourse, especially on why infidelity is so prevalent, and how we can better foster better communication and accountability. some conversations could be more respectful instead of bringing in harassment and bullying. i just think it’s a false dichotomy to suggest that there are bigger global issues which makes the discussion of infidelity less valid. i believe that society is able to discuss multiple social issues at the same time, so i guess the focus should be more on giving those other issues with the same amount of attention as infidelity while maintaining a respectful conversation.
